Mechanical Dancers
2019 - 2022

These pieces started out as part of my solo show, Multi-dimensional Urban Spaces. and they're a combination of elements from almost all of my previous work.

Most obviously, they're a continuation of my Mechanicals series, and while that focusses on an alternate history, these are my first look at what the present day might look like at the end of that alternate history.

When I was working on my Refugees series, I found that I really enjoyed mixing elements of the fantastic and the everyday, which is definitely part of the vibe here. Looking at the Dancers now, I also see a real continuity with the use of colours, starting from the Refugees and leading to here.

The Dancers are also the first time since my Portals pieces that I've combined my street art photography with my illustrations. I've pushed my technique further, either taking photos that are framed to have figures in them, or cropping older photos to work better with the overall composition.
