Projects
Some pieces and projects, big and small, that I have produced.
This is a series I started on after designing a rune-alphabet for Impirium, and applying the style I developed for The Mechanicals to the same idea.
I also had a bit of fun with Photoshop, applying them to promotional photographs.
This piece was my winning entry for ArtSHINE's Celebrating Diversity competition and exhibition. Diversity has always been an important aspect in the background of my work, and making it the focus of this project proved to be quite challenging. The circuit board idea reflects one of the benefits of diversity: the quality of various different 'components' of society forming connections to become more than the sum of their parts. I based this piece on faces from Sydney, or who I thought represented the diverse groups in the city; a mixture of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, physical and mental ability. I composed the machine versions of the faces on Bristol Board with pencil and design pens, and designed the circuitry linking them, then scanned and digitally coloured the image.
Components 2016
Street Scene essay for Carabas 2016
Although I did post this on my blog, it was actually originally commissioned for the online magazine Carabas. It was a chance to meditate on the particular street art I'd photographed in London, and on what gave it its particular character.
Researching the piece also gave me a greater appreciation for some of the artists, particularly Stik. Carabas also did a follow-up profile on another one of the artists I'd focussed on, Paul 'Don' Smith, which is well worth a look.
Tkay Maidza Fanart 2015
Tkay Maidza seems like a musician tailor-made for me. A singer / songwriter / rapper from here in Oz, with a distinctive style and flow, plus a penchant for cool anime-inspired music videos? Result.
This is my response to the whole hip-hop afrofuturist thing she's got going on. I was especially inspired by her video, M.O.B., which I've stuck below. It's a great song even without the video, but with all this anime sci-fi space stuff going on, It's something else.
Pop Art Owl 2015
I think the title says it all, really? This was an experimental piece I just enjoyed. Let me know if you like it too.
