This design was actually done before I started making my number designs, but I'm just sharing it now that I'm getting back to my letters. I put in a few elements that came from the logo I designed for myself (which is also my website logo). I wanted to have some elements that looked flexible, to contrast with very rigid-looking parts. This is another one it might be fun to see aniumated. What do you think? #lettering #letters #typography #sketches #pencils #finishedart #inkin

YES, this is the design for number 6 flipped 180°. I'm allowed to do that because, despite the protestations of fans of the number 9, that's all it is. Besides, I didn't just flip it. Well, the lines I did just flip, but that's not the whole story. I actually had to redo the shading and colours, so there is definitely more to it , honest. Eight was actually the final number I designed, so I had a bit of fun with it. In the penciling, I was borrowing some influences from some gaming art books I was given by a friend as a birthday present. I think that definitely leant to my making this number a bit...chunkier than many of my others. I do like how the influences from the books gave it a sense of movement, The large segment at the top looks like it's going to start moving side to side, while the stalks at the sid

Flashback - The Gentleman
Hey, I just found out The Gentleman's name! This is Robert Cornelius, the first person to take an image (a daguerrotype, not a photograph) of himself. So there you go, a little history lesson for us all. The Gentleman was another piece that really started out as an experiment. Summer and L'ermitage had been based on art nouveau paintings, but I wanted to see if I could take an image from the same period as those two, and turn it into an image in a similar style. Cornelius' d

Another piece where I went with some bolder colours to contrast the muted grey. Nearly done with the numbers now! For this number, I went with the idea of a straight rod that had a turning gear to put it into the configuration of a 7. #typography #finishedart #inking #pencils #sketches

A break from drawing for some Sydney Street Art
While we were taking my son to play in a park in Enmore, I got a chance to snap a few pieces of street art which I wanted to share, especially as I'm planning to use them in some upcoming pieces. Also, the Sydney Autumn Sun made for some quite lovely shots. #Sydney #photography #streetart

Moving on with my mechanical numbers, here is number 5! I feel like I've built up a series of design features that I can reuse to keep the letters looking thematically similar. I've started making a point of using some of the digital tools available to me when it comes to the sketching. #typography #finishedart #pencils #inking
