Flashback - L'été (Summer)
You know what? I realised that, since I launched this site, there hasn't been any of the process stages for my older work. I thought I'd give that a go, and also use the opportunity for a bit of a self-critique, so here's the first of my Mechanicals pieces, Summer, or L'été, to give it it the title of the poster it's based on. Here is that original poster, Les Saisons: l’été, by Alphonse Mucha from 1896. It's a pretty beautiful image, especially the expression on the model's

Mechanical Text - O
Another week, another vowel. Here's the letter O! #letters #lettering #typography #finishedart #sketches

Impirium Sniper Rifles
This is a whole other class of Impirium weapons, the long distance weapons carried by the Arbalest class. A few of my designs were purely imagined, while some are based more heavily on real-world sniper rifles. This one is kind of a mixture of both. As you can see, the computer model is a pretty streamlined version of my design, which is really interesting to see. #yelkrabstudios #weapons #scifi #gaming #conceptart #sketches #PrimalKhaos

Mechanical Text - Ii
Another vowel for you! If you follow my instagram, you'll have seen that this is a letter I reworked, especially the line work. I wasn't entirely sure how to do the dot on the lower-case 'i', but rather than have it floating above the main body, I thought I'd go with a circular motif at the top of the body. Looking at it now, I think I gave it a little bit of a 'Sonic Screwdriver' look, which is no bad thing. #letters #finishedart #scifi #sketches #lettering #typography

Impirium Pistol design
These are some of the small arms for Impirium. In these research and concept sketches, you can see that some of the designs are based on tasers. The reason for that was that I wanted to get an idea of what a hand-held weapon that didn't rely on bullets would look like. Here's the computer model for this design, which I will always get a kick out of seeing. #Impirium #yelkrabstudios #weapons #conceptart #gaming #scifi #sketches #PrimalKhaos

Mechanical Text - E
Another of my Mechanical text experiments. As you may be able to tell, I started off by working through the vowels. Yep, I'm going Scrabble-style here. I started off with sketches, loosely based off my site logo. Then I inked and coloured it in Photoshop. Ta-da! #letters #finishedart #lettering #typography

Impirium logo
Impirium, like anything else, needs a logo. and I ended up constructing one from a few different elements I'd created. I knew I wanted to create something that would be an easily-recognised, simplified symbol, something that can sit alongside these other gaming logos. To be honest, working in a High School, the idea in the back of my head was something a player could jot in their exercise book. Again, I started this while we were using the Primal : Khaos working title, so I w

Impirium - The Gest
After introducing you to the Chordir, I wanted to let you meet the next species I contributed to Impirium, The Gest. There are many names for the entity known as the Gest. They seem to have no name for themselves, but the 2 that have come to dominate among other species are the Gest and the Ferals. Either name is a clear indicator of feelings towards them, which tend to vary from wary to genocidal. The Gest are a spontaneously-occurring “feral” AI species. AI has been a contr
