Fantasy and Imagination @ The Shop Gallery, opening tonight!
Just got some photos in for the opening night of the Fantasy and Imagination exhibition. We were busy putting it up last night, and it is nice to hear all the other artists having the same kind of neurotic conversations I have in my head all the time ("Did it come out OK?" "Have I got them level?" "I was really worried about getting this one done..."). My work's ready to go, as you can see below, and I've also put in the photos by the other artists: Laura Wellington, Robert

Civil War! Team Iron Man
It's pretty obvious from this site, but I love my comics. I wasn't such a huge fan of the original Civil War comic. It was one of those big events that Marvel and DC do every year because, well, Marvel and DC do a big event every year. All the regular comics stop their regular stories and have to tie-in to the event, and the endings are rarely satisfactory, because they aren't actually endings, just a final issue which sets up the next lot of plotlines which will lead to the

Steampunk and Street art Superhero T-Shirts available now!
So, I did my inaugural www.jamesmathurin.com market stall yesterday (feel free to mentally substitute a catchier name) at Glebe market. It was the debut of my new t-shirts, which are now on sale in the store (perfect Christmas gift if you're still shopping - hint, hint) The first design is the "l'ermitage" design, a robotic steampunk rendering of a Paul Emile Berthon piece. The other piece is one of my Street Art Superhero pieces, a combination of drawing and street art photo

Come buy some stuff! Glebe Markets, this Saturday
For anyone reading this in Sydney, I'll be running a stall (D27, near the front) in Glebe market this Saturday. I'll be selling a whole bunch of stuff, like my Alternative Christmas cards, and it will also be the first chance to buy t-shirts with my "Battle of Brick Lane" street art superhero and "l'ermitage" steampunk designs. I'll also be seeling canvas and mounted prints of my work, postcards and totebags. There'll also be great snacks and drinks to buy, so it'll be well w

Fantasy and Imagination - The Croydon Wanderers
This is my last entry for Artwork of Fantasy and Imagination, the next exhibition that I'll be doing with the group I did the Sydney Comic Art & Drawing Exhibition with. The show will run from 17th - 24th December, at The Shop Gallery, Glebe, here in Sydney. Keeping with my idea of otherworldly refugees settling into everyday life, this is the pencil and ink work for an amateur team from Croydon (either Croydon near London, or Croydon in Sydney - my Anglo-Australian neutralit

Fantasy and Imagination - December 17-24 at The Shop Gallery
As you can see, I will be part of this show, Fantasy and Imagination. If you're in Sydney in the week leading up to Christmas, you should come along. I'm really excited about the exhibition: I'm really happy with the pieces I've made for it, and the other artists in the show will all also have something interesting to show. Have a look at the information and flyer below, and hopefully I'll see you there in December. Indulge in a spectacle of fantastic vision and explore the l

Artwork of Fantasy and Imagination - The Office

The show will run from 17th - 24th December, at The Shop Gallery, Glebe, here in Sydney. Keeping with my idea of otherworldly refugees settling into everyday life, here are a couple of office colleagues having a chat. This will be exhibited with The Builders, and at least one other piece in the series.

Artwork of Fantasy and Imagination - Builders
This is my first entry for Artwork of Fantasy and Imagination, the next exhibition that I'll be doing with the group I did the Sydney Comic Art & Drawing Exhibition with. The show will run from 17th - 24th December, at The Shop Gallery, Glebe, here in Sydney. A lot of my stuff has been comic and sci-fi based, so fantasy is a chance to try something different.
Most of the fantasy stuff I've enjoyed has been in a contemporary setting (China Mieville, Geoffrey Thorne, Neil Gai
