Different Worlds #3 - The World with The Interdimensional Refugees
With the 'Different Worlds' show coming up, I wanted to focus on the actual different worlds I'm using to link my work. This one is the world that links to my Urban Fantasy pieces.
It's been 18 months since the first refugees arrived through portals all over the world. Since then, we’ve grown accustomed to having neighbours and workmates who would have been considered myths 2 years ago. Here, some of them enjoy a tea break on their building site.
This piece is the pencil and ink version of ‘The Builders’, a piece which shows several other-worldly refugees, now employed on a building site, enjoying their tea break. It is based on a photograph of builders, with animal and fantasy elements into the pencil stage, before inking.
While most refugees are reluctant to talk about their experiences, rumours circle of harsh and brutal feudal societies, with appalling living conditions. For some, having a safe, quiet office job was stranger than anything in their new lives in our world.
As they assimilate into our cultures, many off-world refugees gleefully throw themselves into sports. The Croydon Wanderers are an amateur soccer team, composed of humans and other beings. Their games have become popular events for both communities to meet and socialise.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
There are different small worlds in this big world. Different people, different thoughts, different visions, different goals, and so many more different things.
The 'different' is not as a 'comparison'. 'Different is a 'diversion'.
We all are the same in this world. The same but different. This makes us each unique and special.
In this show you can see the differences between the two artists; different subjects, different styles, and different mediums.
Girija works with natural elements and watercolours. Her works are based on the real world.
James is fantasy and scientific based with lines, shapes, and digital colouring.
All these differences are very apparent, but the common factor between them is “diversity”.
We invite you to join us to celebrate the opening of this exhibition, and enjoy “DIFFERENT WORLDS” with Girija and James.
